Fishing Equipment Supply and Fishing Tackle Supls

The fishing equipment supply and fishing tackle supls needed will very greatly depending on your skill level. For this article I am going to concern myself with the casual or first time angler who will use one rod and reel for many different types of fish and locations.

Let’s start with the fishing rod. You will want to get a 6′6" medium action pole. You can use this for virtually all types of fish. The pole I use for catfish is the "Ugly Stik Catfish Rod" manufactored by Shakespeare.

If your new you will probably want to get a spincasting reel. Spin and bait casting are more difficult and can ruin your day if you don’t know what your doing. For catfish I recommend that whatever reel you purchase contain 10lb test line. Zebco is a decent reel and can often be found in walmart or target as a rod/reel combination. I actually prefer the Zebco Omega Spincast Reel with 10lb test. They are durable and fairly easy to take care of. Of course if the monsters are what you want you will have to go bigger and heavier on your rod and reel to handle the beast that your 20lb test line will hold.

All you need now for catfish is a few leaders, a #2 bait hook, sinkers, bait and maybe a bobber. You can get all these things at your local walmart. If you want more selection you can go to a Bass Pro Shop near you or purchase from them online. There are several good online places if you don’t want to go to Walmart or prefer a better selection with higher quality merchandise. I will be adding links to some of these soon.
